Shopping for custom Clipsal Iconic dollies? Push button, rocker or power point dolly? Check which Clipsal Iconic part you need before ordering, then explore colours, Styl options, engraving and UV printing.
Shopping for custom Clipsal Iconic dollies? Before choosing your icons, wording or colour, check one thing: does your existing switch push inward, or rock from one side to the other? Similar-looking fronts do not mean the parts are interchangeable.
Before you order: push or rock?
It tilts or flicks up and down: choose a compatible rocker dolly.
Still unsure?Send us a clear photo and describe how the switch moves before ordering.
A push button cap will not turn a rocker switch into a push button. Choose the part to suit the mechanism already installed.
Push button vs rocker dollies: what is the difference?
A dolly is the visible cap you touch to operate the switch. The switch mechanism behind it determines how it works. The right label is useful; the right fitting is essential.
Clipsal Iconic rocker dollies
A rocker pivots when you press one side, then moves back when you press the other. Depending on the plate orientation, this may feel like up and down or side to side. If your switch flicks between positions like a traditional light switch, start with our engraved Clipsal Iconic rocker dollies.
Clipsal Iconic push button dollies
A push button is operated by pressing inward rather than tilting the face. Push button controls can have different functions depending on the mechanism, so choose the cap for your particular control. Our engraved push button dollies are a separate product from the rocker version.
Do not choose by the square shape alone. Both styles can look similar from the front. Check the action, range and product details.
3-position switch dollies
These suit a compatible switch with three selectable positions. Our custom engraved 3-position dollies allow labels for each position. Supply your wording in top-to-bottom order and check it against what your installed switch actually does.
Power point dollies are different again
The switches beside your power point sockets may rock on and off, but their caps are different from the standard Clipsal Iconic light switch rocker dollies. The rocking action alone does not mean our light switch dollies will fit.
If you want to label an electrical outlet, do not order a light switch dolly for it.Contact us first with a clear photo of the complete power point, its range or model if known, and the wording or icon you want. We can check the appropriate part and customisation options before you purchase.
Some power points also have an extra switch for a separate light or appliance. That extra switch is different from the switches operating the sockets, so tell us exactly which one you want labelled.
Dolly, cover plate, skin or mechanism: which part are you buying?
Dolly or button cap: the small moving part you press or rock. This is where we add switch labels and icons.
Cover plate or skin: the larger visible surround on the wall. This is what we customise with printed patterns, artwork and designs.
Grid and mechanism: the underlying mounting and electrical components. These are not included with our dolly-only or cover-plate-only products.
Buying a cover plate does not replace the electrical mechanism, and buying a dolly does not include the surrounding plate. Read the inclusions on the product you select. If you would like to buy a coverplate with the dollies, let me know!
Clipsal Iconic colours and styles
There are two choices to make here: the range or style, and the colour or finish. Neither replaces the need to check your switch type.
Standard Iconic colours
Our engraved rocker listing includes Vivid White, Extra White, Anthracite and Extra Black. Push button and 3-position colour options can differ, so use the selections on the relevant listing.
Vivid White: a white finish for a clean, understated look.
Extra White: a separate Clipsal finish, not another name for Vivid White. Match your existing parts by their specified finish.
Anthracite: a dark grey finish. Its engraved lettering is muted off-white or light grey, not bright white.
Extra Black: a black finish. Do not confuse it with Anthracite when matching an existing installation.
Clipsal also lists Cool Grey and Warm Grey for some standard Iconic parts. That does not mean every colour is offered on every DCaL listing. If the finish you need is not shown, contact us to check availability and customisation options.
Clipsal Iconic Styl
Iconic Styl is the metallic-look range with Silver, Silver Shadow and Crowne finishes. Clipsal describes the Styl cover plates as aluminium with a satin, sandblasted finish; the button caps are separate components, so do not assume every Styl part is solid metal.
We also have most of the Clipsal Iconic Styl dolly range available to engrave on order. These versions are not listed on our website yet. Contact us with your finish, switch type, quantities and design so we can confirm the correct parts, availability, engraving result and price.
Clipsal Iconic Essence
Essence is another Iconic style, recognised by its timber-edged cover plates and Arctic White or Ash Grey finishes. If you have Essence, send us a photo and the part details before choosing a standard or Styl dolly. We will confirm whether we can help with your particular request.
The wider Clipsal catalogue is not a list of everything we stock. Check our product options or ask us about your specific style.
How we laser engrave Clipsal Iconic dollies
Laser marking creates the lettering or icon directly on the genuine Clipsal dolly. It is not an adhesive label. We choose the marking process to suit the part and finish, which means the result can differ between colours.
Engraving is a good option for clear room names, lighting labels and simple icons. Choose text only, an icon only, or an icon with text where the listing offers it. Think “PANTRY”, “DECK LIGHTS” or a fan icon, rather than a mystery switch everyone has to test.
Keep wording short. A small cap has limited space, and extra words mean smaller lettering. Check the icon chart and layout guidance on the product page, or ask us about a custom label.
Important: Anthracite engraving is not white
Anthracite will not engrave WHITE. It is a muted off-white / light grey. Please review photos before purchasing.
If you want brighter white lettering on Anthracite, ask us about UV printing with white ink before ordering.
The engraved colour comes from the marking result on that material, rather than white ink being added. Lighting, camera exposure and your screen can affect its appearance, so review the close-up examples as well as the overall product photos.
For someone wanting stronger white contrast, UV printing can be a better choice. Tell us whether you want engraved light-grey lettering or printed white lettering so we can quote the finish you actually want.
UV printed Clipsal dollies: white text, red warnings and coloured icons
UV printing adds ink to the surface and cures it using ultraviolet light. It gives us colour options that laser marking alone cannot provide, including brighter white lettering on Anthracite.
It also opens up practical designs such as:
“DO NOT TURN OFF” in red to make an important label stand out.
Coloured icons for easy identification.
Colour-coded labels for different lights or functions.
Custom artwork or patterns to suit a room or project.
Browse our UV printed Clipsal Iconic rocker dollies. For push button, Styl or another unlisted combination, contact us first to confirm suitability and availability. A printed design still needs the right cap for your switch.
Laser engraving or UV printing: which should you choose?
Choose engraving for straightforward labels and icons when you like the engraved finish shown for your selected dolly colour.
Choose UV printing when you want white ink, coloured text, coloured icons or a full-colour design.
Ask us first when you need a particular contrast level, a Styl version or a combination not shown online.
Different processes produce different finishes. Neither should be treated as scratch-proof, and neither changes the operation of the underlying switch.
Custom UV printed Clipsal Iconic cover plates
Why stop at the little button? Our UV printed Clipsal Iconic cover plates customise the larger surround, turning an everyday fitting into part of the room.
Options on the listing include wood grain, marble-inspired prints, clouds, ocean designs and more, plus a fully custom option. Fully custom can be a colour to match a tile,. or something completely unique! These are printed designs: a marble or wood-grain appearance does not mean the plate is made from marble or timber.
Choose the correct plate configuration for your existing fitting. The number and arrangement of switch openings, power point layout and orientation matter. A dolly colour alone will not identify the right cover plate.
The cover plate listing is for the cover plate & dollies only. Mechanisms are not included.

Clipsal Iconic dolly FAQs
Can I use a push button dolly on a rocker switch?
No. These are different parts for different switch actions. Select a compatible rocker dolly for a rocking switch and a compatible push button cap for a push button control.
How do I check which dolly I need?
Operate the switch normally and check whether the face tilts or presses inward. Confirm that it is the Clipsal Iconic range and match the relevant style. If you are unsure, send a photo and describe the movement before purchasing.
Does changing the dolly change what the switch does?
No. The label identifies the function; the electrical mechanism determines it. A new cap cannot convert a rocker into a push button or add dimming.
Will Anthracite laser engraving be bright white?
No. Anthracite engraving is muted off-white or light grey. Review the photos before ordering. For brighter white text, ask about white UV printing.
Can you print red text or coloured icons?
Yes. UV printing allows colour, including red warning text and coloured icons. Send your design and the dolly details so we can check the layout and suitable options.
Can I order engraved Iconic Styl dollies?
Yes. We have most of the Styl dolly range available to engrave on order, although these versions are not listed online yet. Contact us with the finish, switch type, quantity and design.
Are these complete switches?
No. Our dolly listings supply the customised cap only, and our cover plate listing supplies the customised surround only. Check each listing for its exact inclusions.
Can I change the cover plate myself?
Clipsal describes Iconic skins as changeable after the base installation is completed by an electrician. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your exact part. Any work involving wiring, mechanisms or the electrical installation needs a licensed electrician. If you are unsure, ask your electrician.
What should I do if I still cannot identify my switch?
Do not guess. Contact DCaL with a clear photo, any known model details and a description of how it operates. We can help check the options before you order.
