Frequently Asked Questions

Can you create a 3D model if I don’t have a print-ready file?

Yes. You don’t need to have a finished 3D model before getting in touch. We can create CAD models from sketches, measurements, photos or an existing part, depending on the project. We use Fusion 360 for CAD design and can prepare files specifically for 3D printing, including prototypes, replacement components, brackets, enclosures and other functional parts. If you already have a file, we can also check it for printability and make adjustments where required.

Can you reverse-engineer a broken or discontinued part?

In many cases, yes. If you have an existing part that is broken, worn out or no longer available, we may be able to recreate it using measurements, CAD modelling and high-resolution 3D scanning. This is particularly useful for discontinued plastic components, brackets, covers, clips, spacers and other hard-to-source parts. Not every component is suitable for 3D printing, so we’ll assess the original part, how it is used and the forces or conditions it needs to withstand before recommending a solution.

Which 3D printing material is best for my project?

The best material depends on how the finished part will be used. PLA is great for prototypes, display pieces and general-purpose printing, while PETG offers improved toughness and moisture resistance. ASA is well suited to outdoor applications because of its weather and UV resistance, and TPU is flexible and useful for parts such as protective covers, grips and flexible components. We also print with other speciality materials where appropriate and can recommend an option based on strength, flexibility, temperature, appearance and environmental exposure.

What affects the cost and turnaround of a 3D printed part?

Pricing depends on several factors, including the size of the part, print time, material, required strength, level of detail and whether CAD design or reverse engineering is needed before printing can begin. A simple part with a ready-to-print file will generally be faster and less expensive than a complex component that needs to be designed from scratch. Quantity also matters, as some projects are more efficient to produce in batches. Send through your file, measurements, photos or project details and we can provide a quote before production begins.
