Laser Engraving & Cutting FAQs

What materials can you laser engrave or cut?

We work with a wide range of materials using CO2, fibre, diode and UV laser systems. Depending on the project, this can include acrylic, timber, leather, glass, coated metals, stainless steel, aluminium, plastics and specialist engraving materials such as Traffolyte. Different materials require different laser types and settings, so we’ll choose the most suitable process based on the item, finish and intended use

Can you engrave items supplied by the customer?

In many cases, yes. Customer-supplied items such as drinkware, tools, promotional products, plaques and components may be suitable for engraving, depending on the material, coating, shape and value of the item. Some products can be difficult to fixture safely or may react unpredictably to laser marking, so we may need to inspect or test the item first. Send through a photo and material details and we can confirm whether it is suitable.

Can each item in a bulk engraving order have different names, numbers, barcodes or QR codes?

Yes. We can produce variable engraving across a batch, including individual names, serial numbers, asset numbers, barcodes, QR codes or other changing information. This is particularly useful for electrical labels, equipment identification, staff gifts, drinkware and asset-management projects. If you have a spreadsheet or list of the variable data, send it through with your artwork requirements and we can advise on the best way to set up the job.

What artwork files do you need for laser engraving and cutting?

For laser cutting, vector files such as SVG, PDF, EPS or AI are preferred, as they provide accurate lines for the laser to follow. For engraving, high-resolution PNG or JPG files can also work well, particularly for photos or detailed artwork. If you only have a logo, sketch, photo or basic idea, that’s fine too. Send through what you have and we can let you know if it needs to be converted or cleaned up before production. For custom-cut parts, please also include the required dimensions where possible.
